The Clock Game

The Clock Game

  • This is a very popular and affective opening ice breaker for large mifgash groups. In a short period of time, the participants are able to get to know a little about several other people in the group. Having the participants set up meetings with people that they don't know within the mifgash group puts the responsibility of the activity on them, rather than on the facilitator.

Materials: pens, Clock sheets

Length: 20-30 minutes

Group Size: Suited for very large groups

Staffing: one activity leader

Procedure:

Done as Full Group

1. Every participant receives a Clock Sheet and a pen. Instruct the group that they are each responsible for setting up meetings for every hour on the Clock with people that they don't know. Diasporaniks should try to meet with as many Israelis as possible and vice versa. Instruct the group that they have 5 minutes to fill up their Clock Sheets.

Done in Pairs

2. Stop the group and tell them that you are going to callout a different time every three minutes in random order. When you callout a specific hour, each participant must meet with the person who signed up for that time slot. During these meetings, the pairs are asked to introduce themselves and to discuss specific topics. (See below for suggested topics.)

3. After three minutes, callout a new time and a new topic for discussion

Note: If all of the pairs do not have a chance to meet during the course of the activity, they should be encouraged to meet on their own time during the mifgash program.
